Part of the “blank” project that the artist has been creating since 2011, the blank to overcome utilizes air pumps, power supply control circuitry, water, solution, glycerin, ethanol and electricity to produce bubbles in the air.

The theme of “blanks” denotes a space for an unsolved “inquiry” through the perspective of art, a “scale” impossible to comprehend and that is constantly changing.

For the artist, the impression that an incident was “empty” changes in time into a “blank”. the blank to overcome embodies this contemporary condition that is always changing through bubbles. It offers diverse perspectives for thinking about the post-3.11 present: How the bubbles are always shifting as a giant cluster, almost without mass or structure, and the facing up to this; and the framework since modernity that has prescribed society, and the “involved” or the “other”. From this work debate will surely emerge.

Golden Time is set during Japan’s 1980s economic boom years. One day, a 1960s television used for many years is thrown away at a junkyard. But the TV set won’t ac- cept that it has been discarded for good and attempts to break out of the junkyard. This short film is a life-affirming tragicomedy depicting the fate of the TV as if it is a human being. With its high caliber script, direction and character design, and by removing dialogue, the film attempts to create pure visual expression solely through a harmony of animation, sound effects and music, aspiring via classic narrative and analog animation to offer a new kind of entertainment.

The opposite of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, this fantasy story centers on a little girl who has su- pernatural powers and got thrown into the real world.

This girl, Sana, has been locked away in a laboratory to be studied, since she has the powerful ability to turn imagination into reality. She escapes from the laboratory and sees the outside world for the first time in her life, but she is too young and immature to know how to handle her ability. She becomes hopelessly lost and meets a typical stubborn old Japa- nese man named Zouroku. This encounter with Zouroku who, without regard to her supernatural power, candidly lectures Sana about what is unacceptable behavior, profoundly changes her fate and that of the world.

▲娛樂類別Excellence Award得獎作品之一The Burning Buddha Man』,更多資訊可參考官網

The Burning Buddha Man is made using “gekimation”, an animation technique that is primitive but nonetheless makes for free expression due to its simplicity.

Kyoto has been hit by a series of mysterious Buddha statue thefts. A Buddha is stolen from a temple that is home to high school student Beniko, and her parents are murdered. With nowhere to go, she is placed in the custody of her parents’ old friend, the monk Enju. At his temple, she encounters a hideous “Buddha man” which is half statue, half her parents. The beginning and end of the film feature live-action inserts, IGUCHI Yuca playing the heroine inviting viewers into this strange “gekima- tion” world.

The theme of the film is “fusion” and, through its fantas- tical narrative where Buddha statues are fused with people, it portrays Beniko’s development and muted love.

Though full of the grotesque, the theme song by SAKURA INAGAKI Saki cheerfully evokes Beniko’s emotions.

This work takes the theme of a “fantasy captured in plastic models”, utilizing and rebuilding computers and their peripheral devices with plastic models to make a diorama, creating a world about which all of us have surely once daydreamed.

With a personal computer – a “building” for preserving an individual’s memory – here becoming a fortified base for protecting those memories, and a mouse that can move around freely as a defensive “tank”, IKEUCHI’s work embodies ideas acquired from intrinsic forms and how things are used, bringing their special qualities and possibilities into sharp relief. The remodeled computers and PC accessories have been re- built as structures that stage a whole worldview, their electronic circuitry, wiring and mechanisms remaining intact so the equipment can still continue to be used.
